With 2nd Round Pick, Seattle Selects Darryl Tapp

From Mike Kahn at Seahawks.com:

After filling the need at cornerback in the first round with Miami star Kelly Jennings, the Seahawks went right after their other need – a pass-rushing defensive end in the person of Virginia Tech’s Darryl Tapp.

Tapp, a 6-1, 252-pounder and native Virginian, Tapp played in every game as a true freshman and sophomore, starting four his sophomore season – when he had 58 tackles, three sacks, nine tackles for losses and 17 pressures. He moved into the starting lineup for good as a junior, and led the team with 8.5 sacks, caused two fumbles, recovered another, intercepted a pass and blocked a kick – earning All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors.

Rather than leave a year early, he stuck around for another season and kept improving, with 10 sacks, batted away three passes, blocked a kick and caused three fumbles.

Were it not for the question of his size, he in all likelihood would have gone in the first round. But because of his explosiveness at the point of attack, the Seahawks are certain he can become a productive pass-rusher to augment what Grant Wistrom and Bryce Fisher did last season.
