Bannister Breaks Clavicle

From José Miguel Romero at The Seattle Times:

The tattoo down Alex Bannister's left arm reads "Unbreakable."

It might be true of his spirit, but not of his bones, unfortunately.

The Seahawks wide receiver and special-teams standout is out for at least eight weeks, and perhaps up to 12, with a broken right collarbone.

It's the same injury Bannister suffered midway through last season that forced him onto injured reserve, thus ending his 2004 campaign.

Bannister broke the bone again during special-teams drills in Wednesday's practice. He did a routine up-and-under move and ran into a player playing tackle. Instantly, he felt a crack.
"It's unfortunate that it happened," Bannister said yesterday, his arm in a sling, "but the good thing is that it could have been worse."

Bannister said he won't be able to do anything for two weeks, than he'll start physical activity again. He hopes to be back for the Seahawks' first regular-season game Sept. 11 at Jacksonville.

The injury comes at a critical time, since Bannister is among those veteran receivers who are trying to keep their jobs in the face of stiff competition. Ten receivers, including Bannister, are starting the battle for no more than six spots on the final roster, and now Bannister is certain to miss all of training camp.
